In Chinese, “熊膽” is bear bile, with “熊” meaning the bear and “膽”, the gallbladder. The character on left (it is supposed to be viewed as a whole, as “膽” is intentionally placed inside the body of “熊”) depicts a picture of a healthy bear with its gallbladder filled with bile, while the one on the right is about a bear undergoing the bile extraction process. The black fill in the character “膽” can be perceived as the bile, and the “灬” as well as the blood drops below indicate that the bear is suffering. There are ways more than one could ever imagine to send messages to people (even those on the other side of the planet) instantly, which make conversations indisputably more efficient and convenient. </p> <p>But these internet-based technologies also contribute to the fragmentization of information simultaneously. When overloaded with various messages, we tend to become impatient and perfunctory, not on purpose though. Instead of sitting at the desk writing a seven-page-long letter with heart, we simply reply with an emotion or a single word via cell phone during a class or a meal at the fast food restaurant (even without finishing reading the original message sometimes). </p> <p>I’m not trying to say that technology should be blamed for all this. I mean, we are kind of fortunate to have so many choices when it comes to communication. The two footsteps stand for two people who have different purposes, thus there are two exits in the maze.</p> <p>Instead of straight lines, I use dots to create the maze, which can represent the buildings or blocks in Tokyo.
